Each judge reviews the award entries before the show and s/he comes to the first meeting prepared to create a short list of 25 to 30 entries from among the dozens of Participations to be inspected.
Participation may be viewed by one or two judges to determine if they should make the short list.
To develop the short list, judges review the short description of the Participation, collateral materials and rely on their knowledge and research of competing products.
It is at this stage that your Participation description is of vital importance.
A good description of a Participation’s innovative qualities is critical for a Participation to make the short list- promotional language is not.
Onsite judges' meetings with entrants take place two days before the show opens. The meeting schedule may vary by show depending on the number of entries and show logistics.
A representative must be available to provide a concise description of the innovation and answer technical questions during the inspections.
This person must be available at the minimum, by phone two days prior to the show open.
Once inspections of all Participations on the short list are complete, the judges meet again to deliberate and determine the winners.
If no Participation in a given category is deemed innovative as described by the judging criteria, no award may be given in that category.
If there are multiple Participations that are close competitors, an Honorable Mention may be awarded to a product that did not win.
Honorable Mentions do not receive a trophy but recipients can promote their Honorable Mention status in their marketing materials.
No Participations will be accepted or considered after the entry deadline.
Winners are chosen by all judges working together. If you have questions about why your product did not win, please contact MARACAD.
For category Ship Technology
Please check other manufacturers’ products to ensure that your product is actually an innovation.
You must provide a 250-word description for each product entered. This description should focus on explaining to the judges what makes your product truly innovative. You may also enclose other supporting material that further describes your product and its benefits. This short description of the innovative nature of your product often determines whether or not it will be placed on the judges’ short list.
Often, the judges find that while a product is an innovation for a particular company, other companies have had similar products on the market for years.
If the product is brought over from another market as a market extension into the marine industry, it will need to show substantial adaptation or modification to qualify as a “new” product under the program’s definition of “innovation”.
The judges volunteer their time freely and are under no obligation to discuss the deliberation for any particular Participation/category.
All material submitted in support of an entry is warranted by the entrant to be their property and is entered without any encumbrances by third parties.
The entrant indemnifies, and agrees to keep indemnified, the organisers of the UAE Maritime Innovation & Creativity Awards for any claims arising out of any material, statements or claims made as part of their entry.
The entrant agrees that the organisers of the awards are entitled to judge their entry and select what they consider to be the winner in a given category without recourse to the entrants.
The entrant agrees that should they be shortlisted for an Award they will provide a representative to attend the award ceremony to accept the trophy in the event they are successful.
The organisers reserve the right, and the entrant agrees to same, that where the shortlisted entrant fails to send a representative to attend the event the organisers can withdraw the relevant shortlisted entry(s) from the competition without further recourse.
In the circumstances that a shortlisted entrant fails to send a representative to the event but has been declared the winner, the organisers reserve the right, at their sole discretion, to void the entrant’s submission(s) and promote the next placed entrant present at the event to be declared the winner.
In the event that a winning entrant does not send a representative to the event then, on submitting to the organisers an explanation as to their non-attendance, they may still, at the organisers sole discretion, be awarded their trophy which will be shipped to them upon receipt from the entrant by the organisers of a payment of $500.00 plus VAT.
If the entrant wins an award it grants permission to the organisers to use any photographs, video, sound, written or other material as it sees fit and without restriction.
Entries received without the prerequisite information will be deemed invalid and withdrawn from the Awards.
The UAE Maritime Innovation & Creativity Awards reserves the right to withdraw an entry from the judging process at any time if the entry is deemed inappropriate for any reason.
The UAE Maritime Innovation & Creativity Awards' decision is final.
Organisers reserve the right not to award a category at its own discretion and without recourse to the entrants of said category.
In the event that a category is deemed not to have received a sufficient number of entries for the shortlist, the organisers reserve the right, and the entrant agrees to the same, to withdraw the entrant's submission and to assign the winner based on nomination from the event’s judging panel.
The UAE Maritime Innovation & Creativity Awards reserve the right to nominate the entrant in additional categories that the organisers feel appropriate.
